Genealogy and the diaspora

There's loads (well, several) people around the world in the far flung reaches of North America and the Antipodes, who are interested in tracking down their Crockett connections - or more general genealogical links with Galloway.
The question is, how best to connect with them?

Originally my motivation for reading Crockett came from trying to develop a sense of my maternal grandfather’s background, what I had expected was that perhaps Crockett’s novels would help me understand a bit more about my grandfather in a general cultural-context sort of way. What I hadn’t expected was that so much of Crockett’s work would resonate so deeply, the language, attitudes, and traditions all have a familiar ‘feel’ to them.

Although my grandfather was born in Ayrshire his parents seem to have spent close to a decade in the vicinity of Balmaghie parish. My great grandparents Mathew Richmond (b. +/- 1838, perhaps in Kirkcudbrightshire) Elizabeth McWhirter (b. 1838 /39 Ballantrae, Ayrshire) were married in Dalmellington, Ayrshire in 1857, however between 1857 and 1866 four of their children, Jane, Samuel, Andrew and Janet all had their births registered in either Kells or Kelton parish, on either side of Balmaghie parish.

I hope some day to be able to spend time in the area and perhaps discover more about their lives there. In the mean time I would love it if there were other folks whose family members also might have been in the area at the same time as Crockett and his family, and would be interested in mulling over the comings and goings of family members in Galloway in general, and in locations more specifically associated with Crockett, in particular.
