The Raiders 125

Due to be published on Thursday March 1st 1894, publication of The Raiders was delayed until Saturday 10th. Crockett was in London from Friday 9th March till April 2nd.

The basic timeline of Crockett's most important month is set out below.

Thursday 1st:   short story Saucy Susy Singleton published in 'The Young Woman Magazine'.
Friday 2nd:  Crockett was with Dr Alexander Whyte (and had dedicated The Raiders to him)
Monday 5th: 'The Scotsman' Reviewed The Raiders
Tuesday 6th: short story In the Matter of Incubus Published in 'Vox Clamantium'
T.Fisher Unwin wrote to 'The Scotsman' to clear up publication date of The Raiders - they should not have reviewed it before publication.
Friday 9th: (best guess) Crockett travelled to London. Staying at 11 Craven Street.
Saturday 10th: The Raiders published by T.Fisher Unwin. Meeting with Bret Harte.
Sunday 11th: Crockett spent the evening with J.M.Barrie. He was also working on The PlayActress at this time.
Tuesday 13th:  he met Unwin (and others) at The Cheshire Cheese at 6.30pm. It was the haunt of literary types.  Probably Marriott Watson and Pennell were there too or they went to the Pennells afterwards and were introduced.
Wednesday 14th: Crockett inscribes a copy of The Raiders  to Marriott Watson.
Thursday 15th: 'British Weekly' Review, by Claudius Clear (WRN) published.
Saturday March 17th: 'National Observer' Review (Henley, anonymously) slating The Raiders
Monday 19th:  Crockett spent the evening with Pennells. Company included Clement Shorter.
Friday 23rd:  'Literary World' Review published.
Saturday  24th:  visited Greenwich with Pennells.
Thursday  29th 'St James’ Gazette' Review of The Raiders and first episode of Mad Sir Uchtred of the Hills published.
