Past, present, future

Unless you've been under a rock the past couple of years, you'll be aware of the 'rise' of AI.  I've been dabbling on and off in relation to Crockett (see other posts) and here's some stuff which might entertain and/or blow your mind.

The two 'podcast' files (offered here as mp3 so you can download to listen at your own leisure) are created by AI.   Please remember, as you listen to them, the 'speakers' are NOT real people. They are not alive. The whole conversation has been generated in Google Notebook LM from 'sources'.  It is truly 'artificial intelligence'.

The process took a few iterative turns (including my losing one version by clicking inaccurately!) during which the 'conversation' evolved.  There will be some repetition in the two versions you have here (the first I cut after 8 minutes while I let the 2nd go on for the full 16).  Some things I noticed:  First an inability to recognise how to say 'Kailyard' (though one can imagine Americans getting that one wrong even if they were 'real'.  And second, how at one point they go beyond the source material I offered them... you'll maybe spot when they talk about the Lilac Sunbonnet. I don't know where the AI pulled that information from but LS is set in the 19th century.  A classic (and ironic?) example of how one must fact check everything and keep a critical mind.
I also noticed in various iterations that sometimes the conversation gets hijacked into a prolonged dialogue about AI way beyond Crockett (all still interesting I think).

Here are the links.
8 minute 'deep dive'
16 minute 'deep dive'

You can draw your own conclusions about all this.  For me, it works as a constant reminder that the drum I've been metaphorically banging for the last 10 (and indeed 30) years is significant, and is so well beyond issues just about Crockett and the 'Kailyard' label.
